Commuters on Mumbai’s Western Railway line will face significant disruptions this weekend as a 36-hour block is scheduled at Kandivli Yard for the dismantling of an elevated booking office.
The block, effective from 1 PM on Saturday, May 31, to 1 AM on Monday, June 2, will lead to the cancellation of 162 train services, including both suburban and long-distance trains. On Saturday, 73 suburban services will be cancelled, followed by 89 on Sunday. To mitigate the impact, Western Railway plans to operate suburban and mail/express trains on the fast corridor during the block period.
Some long-distance trains will be affected as well. For instance, the Ahmedabad–Borivali Express will terminate at Vasai Road instead of Borivali, and the Borivali–Nandurbar Express will originate from Bhayandar. This block is part of Western Railway’s efforts to extend the sixth line, a dedicated corridor for long-distance trains, up to Borivali. Currently operational between Bandra Terminus and Kandivli, the extension aims to reduce congestion and improve punctuality across the network.
Commuters are advised to check the latest train schedules and plan their journeys accordingly to avoid inconvenience during this period.
