Residents of Mulund’s T Ward are set to face an 18-hour water supply disruption on Thursday as civic authorities carry out critical pipeline diversion work associated with the Goregaon-Mulund Link Road (GMLR) bridge construction. The Mumbai civic body announced that water supply will be completely suspended from 10 AM on August 21 until 4 AM on August 22 to ensure uninterrupted completion of the diversion of a 1,200 mm diameter water pipeline affected by ongoing infrastructure upgrades.
Officials from the Mumbai civic water department highlighted that the diversion is essential to maintain long-term water connectivity in the rapidly developing eastern suburbs. The pipeline, which forms a key artery for potable water distribution in the Mulund and adjoining areas, was disrupted during preparatory work for the GMLR bridge—a project designed to improve east-west connectivity and reduce traffic congestion along a critical urban corridor. Authorities emphasised that while the temporary disruption may cause short-term inconvenience, it is a necessary step to prevent future service interruptions and maintain sustainable water supply standards.
