Mulshi Crackdown PMRDA Dismantles Illegal Restaurants and Bars

The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has undertaken a series of targeted demolitions across Mulshi Taluka, focusing on unauthorized pubs, bars, and restaurants.

Over a two-day operation, PMRDA’s enforcement efforts led to the dismantling of several establishments found in violation of construction norms. On July 18, the authority initiated actions in the Pirangut area, where four venues—Saiba Bar, Sonali Resto Bar, Gypsy Resto Bar, and Atharva Resto Bar—saw their unauthorized structures razed, totaling approximately 21,124 square feet of illegal construction. Continuing their crackdown the following day, PMRDA extended operations to Bhugaon and Bhukum areas, targeting six more establishments: Drunk in Lake, Sandalwood, Banyard Bistro, Rajhans Resto and Bar, T2 Bar, and Taps and Talks. This phase resulted in the demolition of about 28,555 square feet of illegal infrastructure. The demolitions were executed using heavy machinery including Poklen and JCB, alongside additional manpower to ensure swift and thorough execution.

Led by PMRDA’s Commissioner and Assistant Commissioner, the operation reflects a stringent stance against unauthorized developments, aligning with the authority’s mandate to maintain urban planning integrity and public safety. The crackdown comes amidst heightened concerns over illegal constructions linked to activities such as drug trade, prompting coordinated efforts from civic bodies and law enforcement agencies. Concurrently, within Pune city limits, municipal officials acted against similar violations, while the State Excise Department, acting on directives from the District Collector, ordered the closure of 70 bars suspected of non-compliance with regulatory standards. Pune’s Member of Parliament has initiated discussions with the Police Commissioner to establish a dedicated anti-drug task force.

This initiative underscores a broader commitment to ensuring public welfare and security through proactive enforcement measures. PMRDA’s recent actions underscore a proactive approach towards urban governance and regulatory compliance, setting a precedent for stringent enforcement of building regulations and land use policies across Maharashtra’s metropolitan regions.
