Mumbai: The Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation (MRVC) has successfully completed the construction of 13 Foot Over Bridges (FOBs), linkways, subways, and home platforms under the ongoing Trespass Control project. Four additional FOBs are currently under construction and are expected to be completed by March 2025. This significant infrastructure development aims to enhance commuter safety and reduce trespassing across critical railway sections.
As part of the Trespass Control project, MRVC planned the construction of 28 new FOBs, including five on the Western Railway (WR) and 23 on the Central Railway (CR), along with two FOB extensions, two linkways, one home platform, and one subway at 34 key locations. To date, work has been completed at 30 locations, which include 24 new FOBs, two extensions, two linkways, one subway, and one home platform. “The remaining four FOBs, located at Badlapur, between Badlapur and Vangani, at Ambernath (Karjat end), and at Kalwa (Thane end), are currently under construction,” an official confirmed. “These are expected to be finished by March 2025,” the official added. The Trespass Control project, part of the Mumbai Urban Transport Project (MUTP) III, has been sanctioned at a cost of Rs 551 crore and is now 92% complete. Once finished, the project is set to make a significant impact on improving Mumbai’s railway network and ensuring the safety of millions of daily commuters.
Out of the 13 FOBs completed this year, 10 were built under the Trespass Control Project of MUTP III, while three were constructed as part of deposit works by the Zonal Railways. In addition to the FOBs, MRVC has made significant strides in building boundary walls as a measure to prevent unauthorized access. Western Railway has completed 10.75 km of boundary wall construction, while Central Railway has finished 32.914 km. Subhash Chand Gupta, Chairman and Managing Director of MRVC, expressed his pride in the project’s progress, stating, “MRVC is committed to ensuring commuter safety through state-of-the-art infrastructure. The new FOBs not only curb trespassing but also enhance the overall travel experience for millions of daily commuters.”
