New Delhi: As the monsoon season progresses, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has taken proactive measures by establishing a dedicated control room at its Delhi office. This initiative aims to enhance the efficiency of highway operations and minimize disruptions caused by heavy rains across various states, ensuring smooth travel for commuters.
The newly set up round-the-clock control room will serve as a central hub for monitoring and responding to complaints related to blockades, waterlogging, road damage, and other weather-related challenges on national highways. Officials familiar with the development emphasized that the control room will remain operational continuously, demonstrating MoRTH’s commitment to maintaining high standards of road safety and usability during adverse weather conditions. Key responsibilities of the control room include reviewing reports from regional offices, National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), and National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) regarding daily issues encountered due to heavy rains. A robust system of periodic rostering ensures effective oversight and swift action in addressing complaints received from the public or government agencies.
Officials deployed in the control room are tasked with monitoring multiple communication channels, including television news and social media platforms, to promptly relay critical information to the relevant authorities for immediate resolution. This proactive approach not only facilitates quick response to emergencies but also enables real-time coordination among stakeholders to mitigate potential risks on highways.
Furthermore, the control room functions as a central repository for gathering inputs and updates from regional offices and project directors across the ministry’s network. This structured approach ensures that all incidents of road obstructions or damages are promptly recorded and addressed, maintaining comprehensive records for future reference and analysis.
