Mora-Mumbai Ro-Ro Service Expected to Begin Operations by March 2026

The long-delayed Mora-Mumbai Ro-Ro service is finally nearing completion, with the Maharashtra Maritime Board (MMB) announcing a target launch date of March 2026. Construction of the Mora Jetty, which had been stalled since 2018, has resumed, bringing much-needed relief to commuters who have long awaited this critical infrastructure project.

The service aims to connect Mumbai, Alibaug, and Uran, providing a faster and more convenient mode of transport by enabling vehicles to cross the Arabian Sea. However, the delays have significantly increased the project’s costs. The budget for the Revas Jetty has risen from ₹50 crore to ₹75 crore, highlighting the financial impact of years of stagnation. While the Bhaucha Dhakka Jetty on the route is operational, the incomplete Mora Jetty and its access roads remain a significant hurdle. This has raised concerns among commuters, with many doubting whether the service will ever start, especially given the increasing popularity of the Atal Setu bridge as an alternative route for vehicles traveling between Mumbai and Uran.

Despite these challenges, MMB Executive Engineer Sudhir Devre has expressed confidence in the project, stating that construction at the Mora Jetty is back on track and will be completed as planned by March 2026. The Mora-Mumbai Ro-Ro service is expected to ease road congestion, enhance connectivity, and provide a sustainable alternative to road travel, making it an important development for the region. The project holds strategic significance, not only for reducing travel times but also for supporting regional economic growth by improving logistics and connectivity. Once operational, the service will offer commuters a faster, more efficient travel option between Mumbai, Alibaug, and Uran, significantly cutting travel times across the region.

The Mora-Mumbai Ro-Ro project, however, has been plagued by delays, leading to public frustration and escalating costs. The Revas Jetty’s budget has increased by 50%, from ₹50 crore to ₹75 crore, reflecting the toll of prolonged delays. While skepticism remains high, the MMB has assured that it is addressing the remaining issues to ensure timely completion. With the new launch date set for March 2026, hopes are high that the Mora-Mumbai Ro-Ro service will finally begin operations, boosting regional connectivity and providing much-needed relief to thousands of commuters. The service is poised to become a critical part of Mumbai’s infrastructure, bridging gaps in transportation and supporting sustainable urban growth.
