The southwest monsoon, which had remained subdued earlier this week, made a vigorous comeback on Thursday, advancing into several parts of western and eastern Uttar Pradesh. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), this revival is accompanied by favourable conditions for further progression across the state, heralding much-needed rainfall after a period of dry weather.
In Lucknow, temperatures have shown a slight deviation from normalcy, with the maximum recorded at 35.5 degrees Celsius, slightly below average, and the minimum at 27.7 degrees Celsius, slightly above average. The forecast for Friday indicates continued cloudy skies with intermittent spells of rainfall or thundershowers. Maximum temperatures are expected around 35 degrees Celsius, while minimum temperatures will hover around 28 degrees Celsius. Significant rainfall has already been reported from various parts of Uttar Pradesh, with Moradabad leading with 180 mm, followed by Rampur and Mainpuri each receiving 110 mm. Other regions such as Bareilly, Muzaffarnagar, and Badaun also experienced substantial rainfall, ranging from 50 mm to 110 mm, alleviating drought concerns in these areas. The weather pattern is influenced by a trough, an elongated area of low pressure, traversing the state, enhancing moisture-laden easterly winds. This atmospheric setup is anticipated to sustain light to heavy rainfall across many regions of Uttar Pradesh throughout Friday and Saturday. Additionally, meteorologists predict a decrease in both maximum and minimum temperatures by two to three degrees Celsius over the next few days.
As of the latest update, the northern limit of the monsoon stretches from Barmer in Rajasthan to Jammu in Jammu and Kashmir, passing through key cities like Agra, Patna, and Dehradun. IMD forecasts indicate favourable conditions for the southwest monsoon to extend further into Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar, and parts of Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Chandigarh, Haryana, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu over the next two to three days. The resurgence of the monsoon is crucial for agriculture and water management across Uttar Pradesh, bringing relief from the heat and supporting seasonal crops. Authorities and residents are advised to remain vigilant as rainfall intensifies, ensuring preparedness against potential flood risks and disruptions in daily activities. This renewed monsoon activity underscores the dynamic nature of India’s weather patterns and the importance of timely meteorological forecasts in guiding regional planning and disaster management efforts.
