MMRDA Opens 180-Meter Road for Faster BKC Access

Mumbai’s Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) now has a new way to ease traffic congestion, thanks to the opening of a 180-meter signal-free road today. This new six-lane stretch, developed by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) at a cost of ₹3.98 crore, connects the MTNL Junction to the BKC-Chunabhatti Connector, providing a more efficient route for commuters. The road is strategically designed to streamline traffic flow and significantly reduce travel time, especially during peak hours.

Previously, the journey between Eastern Express Highway and BKC would take about 30 minutes during peak traffic, but with this new road, the commute is expected to be cut down to just 15 minutes. Running parallel to the Mithi River, this route will offer quicker access to key locations within BKC, including the MCA Club, consulates, and other prominent landmarks. The opening of the road comes at a crucial time as BKC continues to face significant traffic bottlenecks caused by ongoing infrastructure projects, such as the construction of Metro 2B and the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train. This new road aims to alleviate some of the pressure caused by these developments and offers a smooth and faster alternative.

Along with complementing the existing routes like the Sion-Dharavi-Kalanagar and Santacruz-Chembur Link Road, the new signal-free road plays a pivotal role in improving Mumbai’s urban infrastructure. It promises to provide daily commuters with a faster, hassle-free experience, reducing congestion and offering a welcome solution to one of the city’s busiest areas.
