The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has awarded a Rs. 701.94 crore contract to the Rithwik-Soma Joint Venture (JV) for the construction of the Dongri Depot.
This project, part of Package-CA 207, will be a crucial component of the Red Line of the Mumbai Metro, which includes Lines 7, 7A, and 9. The Dongri Depot, situated on a 41.36-hectare plot in north-west Mumbai, will serve as the main facility for the stabling and maintenance of trains operating on the Red Line. This depot is expected to enhance the operational efficiency of the metro system and ensure the upkeep of the rolling stock.
The scope of work includeincludees the development of several key infrastructure elements: an Operational Control Centre (OCC), a 690-metre test track, a stabling shed (SBL), an inspection shed (IBL), a receiving substation, and two auxiliary substations. The project timeline is set for 4.3 years, with the deadline for completion extending into the future. The MMRDA had issued the bid invitation in February 2024 for Package-CA 207. Technical bids were opened on June 25, revealing three contenders.
The Rithwik-Soma JV emerged as the lowest bidder (L1) with a bid amount of Rs. 733.24 crore, which is approximately 14.64% above the MMRDA’s original estimate. The contractor Is tasked with comprehensive responsibilities, including land development and the construction of essential infrastructure. This includes the Stabling Yard, Operational Control Centre, Depot Control Centre, Administrative Building, Maintenance and Inspection Buildings, and various utility systems like drainage and rainwater harvesting.
Additionally, the contract encompasses architectural finishes, plumbing, and the installation of Pre-Engineered Buildings (PEB) for the Dongri CAR Depot, positioned near Metro Line-9. This development forms part of the broader Mumbai Metro Rail Project, overseen by the MMRDA. The successful execution of this project will not only bolster the metro system’s operational capacity but also contribute to Mumbai’s ongoing urban development efforts.
