PUNE: In a recent and emphatic appeal, Mahesh Landge, the BJP MLA for Bhosari Assembly in Pimpri-Chinchwad, has called for the expedited advancement of the Sanvidhan Bhavan (Constitution Building) project. He has suggested that if the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) cannot swiftly progress with the construction, despite repeated follow-ups, the project should be transferred to the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC).
Landge took to social media to express his concerns, tagging prominent political leaders, including Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, urging them to intervene in the matter.
The proposed Sanvidhan Bhavan is envisioned as a centre for the study of the Indian Constitution and the constitutions of other democratic nations. The project aims to raise awareness about constitutional literacy and foster a deeper understanding of the foundational principles of democracy. This ambitious project is intended to be a joint effort between the PCMC and the PMRDA.
“Common citizens should have the opportunity to study the constitutions of other countries, alongside the Indian Constitution, which underpins the world’s largest democratic system. This is the core purpose of the Sanvidhan Bhavan proposed in Pimpri-Chinchwad,” stated Landge. He emphasized the urgency of accelerating the project, which he claims was neglected during the Mahavikas Aghadi rule.
If the PMRDA is unable to complete Maharashtra’s first Constitution Building project, Landge has demanded that the plot be transferred to the PCMC. Anticipating the upcoming monsoon session, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde is expected to follow up with the Urban Development Department to address this pressing issue.
The Sanvidhan Bhavan project holds significant promise for enhancing constitutional literacy and providing a dedicated space for citizens to engage with the foundational principles of democracy. By facilitating access to such an institution, the project aims to contribute to the broader educational and civic landscape of the region.
The proposed handover to the PCMC is seen as a viable solution to ensure the timely completion and realisation of the project’s objectives. This move is expected to expedite the construction process and align it with the original vision of creating a centre for constitutional studies and democratic engagement.
Landge’s proactive stance highlights the growing impatience with bureaucratic delays and underscores the necessity for decisive action to bring the Sanvidhan Bhavan project to fruition. The call for a swift handover to the PCMC reflects a pragmatic approach to overcoming administrative hurdles and achieving the intended outcomes of this landmark initiative.
