Mira Bhayandar Traffic Police Implements NH48 Road Closures And Diversions Till November 8

The Mira Bhayandar Vasai Virar (MBVV) Traffic Police have announced temporary traffic restrictions on parts of the National Highway (NH) 48 service road to ease congestion and streamline vehicle movement across key junctions. The changes, which came into effect this week, will remain in force until November 8.

The traffic advisory applies to major stretches between Penkarpada, Amar Palace, Lodha Complex, Pandurang Wadi, and Mira Gaothan, where the service road has been converted into a one-way route. The move aims to reduce frequent traffic snarls caused by increasing local and intercity vehicular load on this busy suburban corridor linking the western suburbs with Mumbai city. According to civic and traffic officials, this decision follows an assessment of traffic flow patterns that revealed recurring bottlenecks near Bhakti Vedanta Hospital, Dalmiya College Corner, and the Penkarpada junction. “The changes have been designed to improve travel efficiency while ensuring smoother passage for both public transport and emergency vehicles,” said an official.

Under the revised plan, vehicles travelling from Mira Road via Srishti to Mumbai will not be permitted entry through Bhakti Vedanta Hospital or Penkarpada. Instead, motorists are directed to use the northbound service road through Delta Garden and Mira Gaothan, turning near Amar Palace Hotel to rejoin the main route. Similarly, vehicles previously accessing the service road via Pandurang Wadi or the Bhoir CNG Pump will need to follow detours connecting through Mira Gaothan. Motorists from Penkarpada Road behind Dahisar Check Naka have been prohibited from taking a right turn towards Mumbai, with an alternate route provided under the Amar Palace flyover.

Transport planners say these measures are critical for managing Mira-Bhayandar’s fast-growing traffic volumes, particularly as residential density has surged along the NH48 corridor. The area’s infrastructure—originally designed for lighter traffic—is now under strain from daily commuter and freight movement between Mumbai and Gujarat. Experts note that while the restrictions may temporarily inconvenience motorists, the broader goal is to develop safer, more efficient urban mobility. Authorities have urged residents to follow updated signages and use navigation apps to plan trips effectively during the diversion period.

The MBVV Police are expected to monitor traffic flow continuously and make further adjustments if necessary. Officials added that improved enforcement and route planning would help reduce idling time and lower vehicular emissions, contributing to cleaner and more sustainable urban transport.
