Mira-Bhayandar residents are set to experience a 12-hour water supply suspension on Friday, December 5, as the Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) undertakes urgent infrastructure work. The shutdown, scheduled from 7 AM to 7 PM, is necessary to relocate three air valves along the Ovala–Kasarvadavli road and repair a serious leakage on a 1,000 mm main pipeline near Ashwini Banquet Hall in Bhayandar East. Officials from MBMC and the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) emphasised that the intervention is critical to prevent further damage and ensure long-term reliability of water distribution.
The disruption affects STEM water supply, though MIDC pipelines will continue operating. Residents are being advised to plan consumption carefully and store water in advance, as pressure may be reduced even after partial restoration. “The leakage is severe and requires immediate repair to prevent service failure in densely populated sectors,” said an official from MBMC’s Water Supply and Sewerage Management department. The relocation of air valves is part of MMRDA’s ongoing road widening initiative, aimed at enhancing mobility and reducing congestion along the Ovala–Kasarvadavli corridor. While temporary water suspension poses inconvenience, the authorities highlighted its necessity for integrating urban transport improvements with sustainable utilities infrastructure.
