Concerns have arisen in Meghalaya over the lack of discussion regarding the potential benefits of the National Logistics Policy (NLP) for the state, one year after its launch.
Questions have been raised about how this policy can uplift Meghalaya’s economy and why it has not been a topic of discussion. Given that Meghalaya shares an international border with Bangladesh, which serves as the gateway to Southeast Asia, it is necessary for the state to strategize its economic development in light of this policy.
While acknowledging that Assam and Mizoram have already made significant strides in harnessing the benefits of NLP, for Meghalaya to thrive, it needs to open its borders, particularly in the southern slopes of the region.
Despite the logistics sector being considered the backbone of economic growth, Meghalaya’s internal road connectivity remains a significant challenge. The discussions surrounding logistics and trade would be rendered ineffective without addressing and improving the state’s internal road network.
