The long-awaited Medicity project, centred around Ahmedabad Civil Hospital, is quickly approaching its completion. Chaired by Gujarat’s Health Minister, Rushikesh Patel, a recent review meeting focused on the progress of this ambitious healthcare development. With a vision of transforming the region into a global healthcare hub, the Medicity project aims to offer state-of-the-art medical services that will set benchmarks not only for Gujarat but for the entire nation. As medical tourism in the state continues to rise, the project is poised to cater to the growing demand for world-class healthcare services.
At the heart of this development is the integration of multiple super-specialty services, which will be available under one roof. The Civil Medicity, which aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision, is expected to create an exceptional healthcare ecosystem. It is anticipated that the complex will offer a wide range of specialties, including cardiology, kidney treatment, spine care, dental services, and ophthalmology, thereby making it a prime destination for medical tourists, both domestic and international. The plan also includes enhanced accessibility features such as information systems for patients and seamless mobility, which will improve the overall patient experience and ease navigation across the campus.
In terms of infrastructural development, the Medicity project includes a strategic layout for L-shaped parking, aimed at streamlining traffic and parking congestion on the campus. The current design includes eight entrance gates, with plans to add two more to accommodate the growing number of patients and visitors. Additionally, new projects, including an 1,800-bed hospital, are underway, costing approximately Rs 838 crore. This new facility will feature critical services such as OPD, IPD, and ICU, further expanding the campus’s capacity to serve a large population.
A key component of the Medicity’s future plans involves expanding the infrastructure to accommodate the Hospital for Mental Health and Maniben Hospital, addressing future needs. Sustainability is an underlying theme in the project, with the development of energy-efficient buildings and the promotion of green spaces. The Medicity project’s focus on green building certifications and environmentally friendly construction practices aligns with global trends towards sustainable development in urban healthcare facilities. As this landmark project nears completion, it represents a significant leap forward in Gujarat’s healthcare infrastructure, bringing high-quality medical services within reach for millions of people while advancing the state’s position as a leader in healthcare innovation.
