The Mangaluru city police have warned of legal action against traffic violators who fail to clear pending fines by July 15. Notices were issued for violations captured through smart cameras and mobile recordings. Offenders who do not comply within the deadline will face chargesheet filings and be summoned to court, according to an official police release shared on Wednesday.
Mangaluru police have started an enforcement drive against traffic rule violators who are yet to settle their dues. Offences include over-speeding, helmetless riding, ignoring seat belts, and signal violations. The violations were detected via automated systems set up under the Smart City project and mobile evidence captured by traffic police. Vehicle owners received notices by post but many have not responded or made payments.
Officials confirmed that after July 15, legal proceedings will commence. Chargesheets will be filed against those who continue to ignore the fine payment deadline. The cases will then move to jurisdictional courts, where offenders will be summoned. This is part of an intensified campaign to ensure better road discipline and accountability among motorists, especially in urban and congested areas.
To facilitate easy compliance, violators can pay fines at four traffic police stations or at the office of the Assistant Commissioner of Police (Traffic). Payments are also being accepted through traffic enforcement devices used by police staff, or at Karnataka One centres. Authorities have advised vehicle owners to cross-check offences and act promptly to avoid court summons.
Residents say the move is necessary but also stress the importance of timely communication. Some believe more public awareness is needed to ensure people understand the consequences of delayed payments. Meanwhile, the police continue to remind citizens that technology-backed enforcement, such as smart cameras, aims to deter repeated offences and build a culture of safer roads.
As the July 15 deadline approaches, Mangaluru police have made it clear that ignoring traffic fine notices may invite legal trouble. With chargesheets set to be filed post-deadline, motorists are urged to clear dues promptly. This enforcement initiative is a step toward strengthening traffic safety and accountability. Citizens are encouraged to cooperate with officials and resolve violations before legal action is taken.
