Mangaluru Enhances NH-75 for Monsoon Traffic

As the monsoon season approaches, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has expedited efforts to alleviate traffic congestion on the NH-75, particularly in the Kalladka region.

The ongoing four-laning project between BC Road and Addahole has faced challenges due to incomplete infrastructure and inadequate drainage systems. In response, NHAI has implemented several measures to ensure smoother traffic flow during the rainy season. Effective May 29, NHAI opened Vehicle Underpasses (VUPs) near Mani and Uppinangady, providing alternative routes for commuters and reducing bottlenecks. Additionally, the left section of the Kalladka flyover is set to be accessible to vehicles from June 2, further easing congestion in the area. These developments are expected to significantly improve traffic conditions during peak monsoon months.

Addressing waterlogging issues in Thumbay, NHAI has installed a pipe culvert to facilitate better drainage and prevent road inundation during heavy rains. Once the construction is complete, these interventions will ensure uninterrupted traffic flow, even during adverse weather conditions. Regarding construction progress, 14.4 km of the 15.130 km Addahole–Periyashanthi section has been completed. Similarly, 41.52 km out of 48.485 km from Periyashanthi to Bantwal has been completed, further easing traffic pressure in these areas. These advancements reflect NHAI’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure and minimizing public inconvenience.

While these measures are commendable, experts emphasize the need for comprehensive planning to address the underlying issues contributing to traffic disruptions. Ensuring timely completion of remaining works and implementing effective drainage systems are crucial steps toward achieving long-term improvements in traffic management on NH-75. In conclusion, NHAI’s proactive approach in opening underpasses, completing flyover sections, and addressing waterlogging issues demonstrates a commitment to improving commuter experience and infrastructure resilience. Continued efforts and timely execution of remaining works will be essential in maintaining smooth traffic flow during the monsoon season and beyond.
