Maharashtra To Get First Heliport At Hadapsar Pune
Maharashtra is poised to set up its first dedicated heliport at the Hadapsar Gliding Centre in Pune, a move aimed at strengthening the state’s regional air connectivity and expanding its aviation infrastructure.
Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Murlidhar Mohol, announced that the 230-acre site currently housing the gliding centre will be handed over to the Airports Authority of India (AAI) for the heliport’s development. The handover will mark the formal launch of the project, which is expected to serve both civil and emergency aviation needs. Designed to enhance intra-state mobility, the heliport will facilitate faster access to remote and underserved regions of Maharashtra.
It is also expected to support emergency medical services and stimulate tourism by connecting key destinations via air routes. Officials see the heliport as a key step in decentralising urban aviation infrastructure and enabling point-to-point helicopter travel. Once completed, it could serve as a model for similar facilities in other cities across the state. With Maharashtra increasingly investing in multimodal transport systems, the heliport project aligns with the broader push to integrate air travel into regional mobility solutions.
Development timelines and operational frameworks are expected to be announced following the site’s transfer to AAI.
