Maharashtra reported 84 new COVID-19 cases on Friday, raising the total number of infections in the state this year to 681, according to the state public health department.
The majority of patients have shown mild symptoms, and officials have advised the public not to panic. The rise in infections comes amid a broader regional uptick in COVID-19 cases, with recent surges reported in countries like China, Hong Kong, and Singapore. Within India, states such as Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Delhi, and Punjab have also recorded fresh cases over the past week. Mumbai accounted for the highest number of new cases in Maharashtra with 32 infections. Other reported cases include 14 in Thane Municipal Corporation limits, 19 in Pune Municipal Corporation, three in Pimpri Chinchwad, and smaller numbers spread across Thane district, Navi Mumbai, Kalyan-Dombivli, Raigad, Panvel, Nashik, Pune district, Satara, Kolhapur, and Sangli.
State health authorities said in an official statement that the new cases are being closely monitored, and there is no immediate cause for alarm. They reiterated that the majority of patients are recovering without complications, and no significant hospitalisation surge has been reported so far. Officials are urging citizens to remain cautious and follow basic preventive measures, especially in crowded spaces, while assuring that the situation is under control. Surveillance and testing have been intensified in urban centres to track any further spread of the virus. The recent spike highlights the need for ongoing vigilance even as pandemic restrictions have eased.
