Maharashtra PMRDA Assures Farmers Priority and Transparency in Pune Ring Road Land Acquisition
Maharashtra’s Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) is prioritizing transparent and cooperative land acquisition for its proposed 65-meter-wide Internal Ring Road project. In a recent meeting held at Nigdi-Pradhikaran, PMRDA Commissioner Dr. Yogesh Mhase directly engaged with farmers from 13 villages whose land is slated for acquisition, assuring them that no land would be acquired without proper dialogue and mutual understanding. This direct interaction aims to foster trust and ensure a fair process for all landowners affected by the crucial infrastructure development.
Dr. Mhase emphasized that the rights and interests of farmers would be given utmost priority, and the acquisition process would be carried out to ensure no loss or hardship. He further stated that farmers who voluntarily agree to the acquisition would be eligible for an additional 25% compensation from the government. The proposed ring road is designed to significantly improve connectivity to numerous villages, thereby enhancing local transportation and infrastructure. Officials also highlighted that the value of the remaining land parcels owned by farmers is expected to appreciate significantly upon the road’s completion.
Farmers received detailed guidance on various acquisition and compensation models, including direct purchase, consent-based acquisition, Transferable Development Rights (TDR), and incentive Floor Space Index (FSI). Discussions covered both Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the Ring Road project. This consultative approach, attended by senior officials including Additional Metropolitan Commissioner Deepak Singla, aimed to clarify doubts and address concerns directly, ensuring stakeholders are fully informed of their rights and benefits.
The PMRDA is committed to maintaining open lines of communication with all stakeholders through continuous consultations. This proactive strategy is intended to expedite the land acquisition process while ensuring equitable treatment for farmers, paving the way for the timely completion of the Ring Road project, which is vital for easing traffic congestion and boosting connectivity in the Pune Metropolitan Region.
