The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has intensified inspections across urban and rural areas as part of an expanded effort to ensure that food served during the festive period is safe, uncontaminated, and produced under regulated conditions. The initiative, positioned as a preventive public health measure, is intended to reduce the risk of food-borne illnesses during one of the peak dining seasons of the year.

The drive, which will run until the end of December, calls for closer scrutiny of food preparation areas, storage practices, and waste disposal systems. According to officials, the department conducts routine inspections throughout the year, but the anticipated surge in footfall during New Year gatherings has prompted the administration to scale up vigilance. Follow-up inspections will be conducted within fifteen days, with repeat violators risking suspension or cancellation of their licences. Officials said that maintaining transparency and accountability is essential to protecting consumers, especially in bustling metropolitan centres.
