Maharashtra is striving to catch up with Housing for All programme, as data
reveals it has only achieved 27 percent of the targeted number of houses for
economically weaker sections under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY)
in urban areas. The state housing department is taking urgent measures to
expedite its performance.
To expedite the implementation of the plan in urban areas, the state housing
department has recently established a dedicated Project Management Unit
(PMU). MahaHousing, established in 2019, serves as the implementing agency
for PMAY (Urban) in the state. Meanwhile, the Maharashtra Housing and Area
Development Authority (Mhada) acts as the state’s nodal agency for PMAY
(Urban).
As the pressure mounts to achieve the Housing for All goal in urban areas,
Maharashtra is committed to address the housing needs of economically weaker
sections and ensure effective execution of PMAY (Urban) projects.
