The Maharashtra Government has moved forward with a key recommendation made earlier by Baramati MP Supriya Sule to appoint a single nodal officer responsible for coordinating development work across Hinjawadi. This strategic decision aims to resolve long-standing civic and infrastructure issues in one of Pune’s most vital IT and residential hubs.
In a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, key agencies including the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), and Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) were directed to prepare a unified and comprehensive plan to address persistent challenges such as traffic congestion, flooding, water supply shortages, and encroachments. The decision to streamline inter-departmental coordination through a single nodal officer is expected to reduce delays, eliminate jurisdictional confusion, and accelerate implementation of key infrastructure projects in the area.
The government has also outlined an ambitious roadmap to improve connectivity in the region. A dedicated corridor from Kaspate Wasti to Hinjawadi Phase 3 will be developed with upgraded cement concrete roads to ease traffic flow. Road widening projects have been greenlit for critical stretches, including from Surya Hospital to Maan Gaothan. A decision on expanding the Hinjawadi Elevated Road to six lanes is expected within the next two weeks, while previously stalled initiatives like the Mahalunge IT City will now be fast-tracked.
To further support mobility and reduce congestion, the plan includes creating a major public transport hub in the Wakad-Balewadi zone, and strengthening east-west road connectivity across Hinjawadi and nearby areas. Encroachments on footpaths and utility spaces are also set to be removed as part of a larger urban clean-up effort. Alongside these mobility and civic initiatives, the administration has committed to finalizing updated flood mitigation and drainage plans by next year, to address seasonal waterlogging and infrastructural strain during monsoons.
The coordinated development model now being adopted marks a shift in how major urban nodes like Hinjawadi are planned and managed. With clear accountability, faster execution timelines, and improved communication among authorities, the Maharashtra Government aims to deliver lasting improvements to the daily life of residents, businesses, and commuters who rely on this crucial corridor.
