Maharashtra Goods Train Derails Near Monkey Hill Services Affected

In Maharashtra,a goods train derailed on Friday in the ghat section between Lonavala and Karjat, near Monkey Hill station, causing significant disruption to long-distance and express train services. While local train operations remained unaffected, authorities swiftly initiated restoration work to clear the affected lines and mitigate further delays.

The incident involved one trolley of a goods train brake van derailing at kilometer 118/25 in the South East Ghat section, impacting the down and middle lines. Services heading towards Pune are experiencing delays. Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported in the incident, as confirmed by the Chief Public Relations Officer of Central Railway, with the Mumbai division of Central Railway also acknowledging the incident via social media.

Restoration efforts are currently underway at the site to expedite the resumption of normal train movement. This derailment highlights the continuous need for robust railway infrastructure and maintenance, crucial for ensuring the uninterrupted flow of goods and passenger services. Earlier this year, in May, a similar freight train derailment between Bhiwandi and Kharbao in the Thane district had also affected train movements in that stretch, underscoring the ongoing challenges in railway operations.
