Maharashtra CM Directs New DPR for Crucial Vasai Ring Road Project
Maharashtra’s Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, has ordered the preparation of a fresh Detailed Project Report (DPR) for a vital Ring Road in Vasai tehsil, located in the Palghar district, adjacent to Mumbai. This significant decision aims to alleviate severe traffic congestion and address acute parking shortages plaguing the rapidly developing Vasai-Virar township, which forms an integral part of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). The directive was issued during a high-level meeting attended by key officials and local representatives.
The need for a new DPR arises because extensive construction has occurred along the route of the previously proposed Ring Road, necessitating a comprehensive re-survey. Chief Minister Fadnavis instructed that the new DPR be prepared with the assistance of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) and directed that the acquisition of currently vacant land for the project should commence immediately. This proactive approach seeks to avoid further delays and cost escalations.
Palghar MP Dr. Hemant Savra and local MLAs Sneha Dube-Pandit and Rajan Naik highlighted the dire traffic situation in Vasai-Virar and the growing scarcity of parking spaces. In response, the Chief Minister also ordered a feasibility study for a comprehensive parking solution. Additionally, concerns were raised regarding several essential flyover bridges and road projects in Vasai-Virar, such as Range Office Chowk and Vasant Nagri, which have been pending with MMRDA for years.
The Chief Minister has directed immediate collection of information on areas where 100% land acquisition for these pending projects has been completed, along with the prompt provision of funds to expedite their implementation. This renewed focus on the Vasai Ring Road and associated infrastructure aims to significantly improve connectivity and mobility in the region, ensuring that the critical infrastructure keeps pace with the township’s rapid urbanization.
