Maharashtra Budget Prioritises AI in Farming and Infrastructure
Maharashtra’s 2025 budget, presented recently, outlines a robust plan aimed at bolstering agriculture, infrastructure, and industrial growth in the state. Key provisions include a groundbreaking push for Artificial Intelligence (AI) in farming, significant irrigation projects, and a Rs 64,000 crore allocation for infrastructure development in Mumbai.
A major highlight of the budget is the adoption of AI in agriculture. A pilot project across 1 lakh acres, benefiting 50,000 farmers, will help modernise farming practices, increase productivity, and improve yields. The initiative reflects the state’s commitment to boosting farmers’ income and modernising agriculture with cutting-edge technologies.
In addition, the state has earmarked Rs 19,300 crore for the Tapi River Valley irrigation project, which will enhance water availability for agriculture. The Gosikhurd National Project is another key initiative, aiming to expand irrigation capacity for 12,332 hectares by 2026.
The state is also investing Rs 8,200 crore in urban wastewater recycling to further support agriculture and industry.Infrastructure development, particularly in Mumbai, receives a significant boost with the allocation of Rs 64,000 crore. The proposed third airport near Vadhvan Port, linked to the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train and Samruddhi Expressway, is expected to transform the region into a major transport hub. The Vadhvan Port project, valued at Rs 76,220 crore, will greatly enhance Maharashtra’s cargo handling capacity and maritime trade by 2030.
The budget also places emphasis on industrial growth with the introduction of a new policy aiming to attract Rs 20 lakh crore in investments. The state plans to create 5 million jobs through initiatives like ‘One District, One Product’ and the development of logistics infrastructure.Overall, Maharashtra’s 2025 budget reflects a balanced focus on agriculture, infrastructure, and industrial growth, aiming for long-term sustainability and economic development.
