Maharashtra Scales Up Bus Fleet For Ganeshotsav Travel Surge
Maharashtra government is actively working to strengthen its urban mobility network and alleviate congestion, particularly in Mumbai. The Transport Minister informed the legislative assembly that various alternative modes like waterways, ropeways, and pod taxis are being explored to ease the burden on existing infrastructure. This comprehensive approach comes in response to recent concerns over public transport safety and overcrowding, demonstrating a commitment to enhancing commuter experience and fostering sustainable transport solutions across the state, ensuring efficient and safer travel for its growing urban population.
Responding to a legislator’s notice regarding a recent train accident, the minister emphasized the state’s dedication to passenger safety, despite railways falling under central jurisdiction. Railway officials have been directed to implement enhanced crowd control measures at stations and work towards reducing commuter fatalities. To further alleviate pressure on public transport during peak hours, the minister mentioned the potential establishment of a task force aimed at revising office timings for private firms. Concurrently, strict action is being pursued against malpractices by app-based aggregator transport services to ensure regulatory compliance and improve service reliability for commuters.
In other legislative discussions, the Minister of State for Home (Rural) confirmed that a police case has been registered in connection with a recent highway accident that resulted in multiple fatalities and injuries. Directives have been issued to the Public Works Department to install speed limit signs and rumblers at the accident site. Separately, the Industries Minister announced a significant development for Kolhapur district: the Kolhapur Urban Region Development Authority (KURDA), encompassing 42 villages across Karveer and Hatkanangale talukas, will be granted special planning authority status within two months, aiming to accelerate regional growth.
These diverse initiatives underscore the government’s holistic approach to improving urban infrastructure and public safety. By exploring innovative transport solutions and addressing regional development needs, Maharashtra aims to create more efficient, sustainable, and equitable cities. Such efforts are crucial for fostering robust economic growth and enhancing the quality of life for all citizens.
