Maha-Metro Initiates Groundwork for Kharadi-Khadakwasla Metro Corridor

Maha-Metro has commenced preparatory work for the Kharadi-Khadakwasla metro corridor in Pune, signaling a significant step towards enhancing urban mobility and reducing traffic congestion. The 25.5 km elevated corridor, part of Pune Metro Phase 2, aims to connect key areas including Khadakwasla, Swargate, Hadapsar, and Kharadi, facilitating seamless travel across the city.

This initiative aligns with the Maharashtra government’s vision to expand the metro network, with the project estimated to cost ₹8,131.81 crore. The corridor will feature 22 stations, integrating various modes of transport and promoting sustainable urban development. Maha-Metro’s early groundwork includes site surveys and land acquisition processes, ensuring timely project execution. The Kharadi-Khadakwasla metro corridor is expected to alleviate traffic pressures, reduce carbon emissions, and contribute to the creation of a zero-net-carbon, eco-friendly, and sustainable urban environment. As Pune continues to grow, such infrastructure developments are crucial in building equitable and gender-neutral cities that cater to the diverse needs of their populations.

While the project awaits final approval from the central government, the commencement of groundwork demonstrates a proactive approach by Maha-Metro in advancing Pune’s metro expansion plans. Once operational, the corridor will not only enhance connectivity but also support the city’s transition towards a more sustainable and efficient public transport system.
