Maharashtra government has sanctioned a financial grant of ₹49.55 lakh for Nagpur Flying Club for the financial year 2025-26. The allocation, cleared through a recent government resolution, is aimed at supporting operational costs including salaries, aircraft maintenance, aviation fuel, and infrastructure upkeep — ensuring one of the state’s oldest flying institutes continues to function smoothly.
Of the sanctioned amount, ₹39.96 lakh has been allocated under non-salary grants, while ₹9.59 lakh will be directed towards salary-related expenses. The divisional commissioner of Nagpur has been named as the controlling authority, with the tahsildar from the commissioner’s office designated as the drawing and disbursing officer. Both officials have been tasked with ensuring compliance with financial rules and submitting utilisation certificates to the state. Established in the pre-Independence period, the Nagpur Flying Club has long played a role in nurturing civil aviation talent, producing trained pilots and professionals for the sector. However, it has faced significant financial stress over the years, resulting in irregular training schedules and stalled operations. The fresh infusion of funds is expected to provide much-needed stability to its training programmes, creating more opportunities for aspiring aviators from the region.
Officials said the funding is not merely a stopgap arrangement but part of a broader effort to revitalise aviation training infrastructure in Maharashtra. Nagpur, already emerging as a critical aviation hub with the Multi-modal International Cargo Hub and Airport at Nagpur (MIHAN), cargo facilities, and its centrally located airport, is being seen as a natural choice for expanding the state’s aviation ecosystem. The revival of the Nagpur Flying Club aligns with this strategy and is expected to support both commercial and civil aviation growth in Vidarbha. Industry experts believe that consistent government backing can help restore the club’s stature as a reliable training ground while addressing the growing demand for trained pilots. With India witnessing rapid expansion in passenger traffic and cargo operations, the need for qualified aviation professionals is set to rise, making training institutes like Nagpur Flying Club crucial.
Officials further highlighted that the fresh grant would also help modernise operational frameworks, improve safety standards, and ensure uninterrupted training cycles. While the allocation provides immediate relief, experts emphasised the importance of a long-term funding and policy roadmap that can integrate the club’s training activities into the wider aviation development plans of the state. The move is being widely viewed as a step towards bridging regional training gaps while reinforcing Nagpur’s position as a prominent centre for aviation education. The continuity of government support, combined with private sector linkages, could set a model for developing sustainable, accessible, and eco-conscious aviation infrastructure in Maharashtra.
