Maha CM Announces Ten New Local Train Services Between Uran And Nerul

Navi Mumbai commuters are set to benefit from a significant boost in suburban rail connectivity following the Maharashtra government’s announcement of ten additional local train services on the Uran route. The initiative, approved by the Ministry of Railways, includes key stops at Targhar and Gavhan stations and aims to ease daily travel for residents of Navi Mumbai and surrounding areas.

The newly sanctioned services, effective from early December, consist of four Nerul–Uran–Nerul trains and six Belapur–Uran–Belapur trains. The addition responds to long-standing public demand for better suburban connections, particularly for commuters residing in rapidly developing residential and industrial pockets along the Uran corridor. “The approval of these new services will significantly reduce congestion and waiting times for daily passengers,” an official noted, emphasising that the changes mark a step forward in integrating last-mile connectivity for the city’s expanding population.

The railway expansion also includes operational improvements, with the Ministry instructing authorities to expedite service speeds on both the Nerul–Uran and Belapur–Uran sections. Central Railway has been tasked with immediate implementation and ensuring adequate public awareness through announcements and online updates. Experts suggest that this suburban rail enhancement is crucial for sustainable urban mobility. By offering alternatives to road transport, the expansion is expected to reduce vehicular traffic along the Uran corridor, lowering emissions and supporting a more equitable transit network for all residents.

In addition to new services, the approval of stoppages at Targhar and Gavhan stations addresses commuter challenges in emerging neighbourhoods. These stations have been longstanding points of advocacy from local citizen groups, who emphasised that reliable rail connectivity is essential for both residential mobility and access to workplaces, educational institutions, and industrial hubs. The government has framed the initiative as a major infrastructure upgrade for Navi Mumbai’s public transport ecosystem. By integrating faster and more frequent suburban services with existing road and metro networks, the city aims to create a seamless multimodal transport framework capable of handling increasing passenger loads.

Officials believe the timely execution of these services will set a benchmark for further improvements in Maharashtra’s suburban rail system. The expansion reflects an emphasis on sustainable urban mobility while delivering practical benefits for thousands of daily commuters.
