Madhya Pradesh Launches Sawan Special Train Between Bhopal and Ujjain for Mahakal Devotees
Madhya Pradesh has announced a special train service between Bhopal and Ujjain to mark the sacred month of Sawan, bringing immense relief and joy to thousands of devotees of Baba Mahakal. The train, flagged off by Indian Railways, commenced operations on July 10 and will run daily until August 31, offering a timely travel option for pilgrims heading to the Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga temple.
The Sawan Special train departs from Bhopal at 2:15 AM and reaches Ujjain by 7:20 AM, providing devotees with a full day for darshan and rituals. On the return journey, the train leaves Ujjain at 9:00 PM and arrives in Bhopal at 1:05 AM the next morning. This schedule has been designed specifically to suit the needs of pilgrims, allowing them to complete their spiritual visit within a single day and return home comfortably at night.
This initiative not only supports spiritual tourism but also helps reduce the travel burden on regular passenger trains during the high-traffic Sawan period. With lakhs of devotees expected to visit the Mahakal temple, this dedicated service is being seen as a thoughtful move to ensure their journey remains smooth, safe, and spiritually fulfilling.
Devotees from nearby districts such as Sehore, Shajapur, and Tarana Road are also expected to benefit significantly from this service, as the train provides connectivity across several key religious and regional stations. Indian Railways has also ensured that each stop is brief and efficient, keeping the focus on convenience and punctuality.
Madhya Pradesh has long been a centre for spiritual pilgrimage, and this move reinforces the state’s commitment to preserving and promoting its cultural heritage. By making it easier for people to access one of the country’s most revered jyotirlingas, the state strengthens its position as a hub of religious tourism and community-centered governance.
