Ludhiana Healthcare Expansion Backed By ₹360 Crore
A major private healthcare investment in Ludhiana is set to expand advanced medical infrastructure in Punjab’s largest industrial city, highlighting growing demand for tertiary healthcare services in regional urban centres.
Healthcare provider Livasa Hospitals has announced plans to build a new multi-speciality facility in Ludhiana with a total investment of about ₹360 crore, a project expected to strengthen specialised medical care availability across central Punjab. The planned hospital will feature around 368 beds and is expected to become operational within roughly 15–18 months once construction and phased development are completed. The new hospital is being developed at Sherpur Chowk along the national highway corridor in Ludhiana, a location selected to improve access for patients travelling from surrounding districts as well as urban neighbourhoods within the city. According to project details shared during the announcement, the facility will be built on more than 9,500 square yards of land with a built-up area exceeding 2.3 lakh square feet.
Industry analysts say the investment reflects increasing confidence in Punjab’s healthcare sector, particularly in large secondary cities where demand for advanced hospital services is rising faster than supply. Ludhiana, known as one of northern India’s key manufacturing and trade hubs, has witnessed rapid population growth and expanding urban economic activity over the past decade, creating stronger demand for specialised medical services. The project also highlights the broader trend of healthcare decentralisation in India. Traditionally, patients from smaller cities often travelled to metropolitan centres such as Delhi or Chandigarh for complex treatments. Expanding tertiary-care hospitals in regional cities can help reduce travel time and healthcare costs for patients while easing pressure on metro-based hospitals.
The Ludhiana facility is expected to offer a wide range of speciality departments including cardiology, oncology, neurology and orthopaedics, along with intensive care units, modular operation theatres and advanced diagnostic capabilities. Healthcare infrastructure specialists note that investments in large hospitals often generate ripple effects across the urban economy. Construction activity, medical equipment procurement and hospital operations can create employment across both skilled healthcare roles and support services. Officials familiar with the project indicated that the facility could generate hundreds of direct and indirect jobs in the healthcare sector once operational.
The Ludhiana project is also part of a broader regional expansion strategy by Livasa Hospitals, which already operates hospitals across several Punjab cities including Mohali, Amritsar, Nawanshahr, Hoshiarpur and Khanna. With the addition of the Ludhiana facility, the network aims to expand its overall capacity significantly in the state’s healthcare system. Urban health policy experts say such investments are increasingly important for sustainable city development. As cities grow, healthcare infrastructure must keep pace with population density, environmental pressures and changing disease patterns.
Strengthening hospital capacity in fast-growing regional cities like Ludhiana could therefore play a crucial role in building more resilient urban health systems, ensuring that advanced medical care is accessible closer to where people live and work.
