Lucknow’s Akbarnagar Cleared for Eco-Tourism Hub Development

Lucknow, under the directive of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has successfully completed the demolition of over 1,800 illegal structures in the Akbarnagar area, marking a significant step towards the establishment of a thriving eco-tourism hub along the scenic Kukrail river.

Initiated in December 2023 and concluded recently, the demolition drive aimed to clear encroachments, including residential units and commercial buildings, to facilitate the development of a riverfront and India’s pioneering night safari, according to a press release from the state government.

“The rejuvenation of the Kukrail river and the envisioned eco-tourism hub exemplify the state government’s commitment to sustainable development,” stated the release. The operation, supported by the Supreme Court’s dismissal of petitions against the demolitions, targeted encroachments by land mafias, infiltrators, and illegal settlers, including Rohingyas and Bangladeshis.

Highlighting the strategic importance of this initiative, a senior government official emphasized, “The successful clearance of encroachments is integral to our broader vision of transforming the Kukrail river area into a prominent eco-tourism destination.”

With the land now cleared, ambitious plans are underway to create a comprehensive riverfront stretching from Dasholi village near Bakshi Ka Talab. This development will integrate existing ponds, forming an expansive park system designed to enhance environmental conservation and recreational opportunities along the river.

A centerpiece of this development is the Kukrail Night Safari Park, set to be India’s first of its kind. Envisaged themes include the Indian Walking Trail, Indian Foothill, Indian Wetland, Arid India, and African Wetland, promising unique experiences for visitors.

Social media has already buzzed with attention, with numerous users sharing transformational videos and before-and-after images of the cleared area, underscoring public interest and support for the project.

The culmination of the demolition campaign with the dismantling of the final structure, a four-story building, signifies a pivotal moment in Lucknow’s urban development strategy. Authorities anticipate that the transformation of the Kukrail river area into an eco-tourism hub will not only attract tourists but also stimulate local economic growth and environmental conservation efforts.
