Lucknow Urban Development Projects Aim to Enhance Citys Liveability and Green Spaces

Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh, is embarking on a series of urban development initiatives aimed at enhancing the city’s liveability, green infrastructure, and traffic management. A recent review meeting, chaired by the divisional commissioner and Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) chairperson, cleared several key projects, including the creation of ‘Moti Park’, ecological restoration along the Kukrail river, a redesign of the busy Charak Chauraha, and visual upgrades to the iconic Hazratganj area. These projects reflect a concerted effort to balance urban expansion with environmental sustainability and improved civic amenities.

The proposed ‘Moti Park’, costing ₹7 crore and spanning 11 hectares in Aishbagh, will feature walkways, seating areas, kiosks, and parking facilities. Crucially, it will incorporate a constructed wetland system designed to treat sewage currently flowing into Motijheel and Jamuna lakes, ensuring cleaner water bodies. This ecological intervention highlights a proactive approach to environmental management within the urban fabric. Alongside this, land reclaimed from encroachment near the Kukrail river in Bhikhapur will be transformed into a forest-style green zone, developed along the lines of ‘Saumitra Van’ with support from the forest department, further expanding Lucknow’s green cover and combating unauthorized constructions.

In a move to alleviate traffic congestion, a proposal to redesign the rotary at Charak crossing in Chowk was discussed, with officials tasked to conduct a joint survey and prepare a new, more efficient design. This initiative addresses a common challenge in rapidly growing cities, where increasing vehicular traffic necessitates intelligent urban planning solutions. Meanwhile, the façade redesign of Hazratganj, a prominent commercial and cultural hub, is in its final stages. Approved elements include specific colors and styles for buildings, new lighting, bollards, benches, and signage, following feedback from local traders. This beautification project aims to enhance the aesthetic appeal and pedestrian experience of one of Lucknow’s most cherished areas.

City officials also directed departments to resolve issues with sewer and water connections flagged by traders in Hazratganj, emphasizing the importance of foundational infrastructure in urban upgrades. Coordination with utility providers was also stressed for aspects like panel placement and underground cabling, ensuring a seamless integration of aesthetic and functional improvements. These multi-faceted projects underscore Lucknow’s commitment to strategic urban planning that not only modernizes its infrastructure but also prioritizes environmental health and citizen convenience.

These comprehensive urban development initiatives in Lucknow signify a dedicated effort to create a more organized, green, and resilient city, effectively integrating ecological conservation with modern infrastructure for improved urban living.
