Lucknow Sanctions Rs 10 Crore To Strengthen Statewide Bomb Detection Squads

The Uttar Pradesh government has approved an allocation of Rs 10 crore to enhance the capabilities of Bomb Detection and Disposal Squads across the state. The funding will support the purchase of 10 liquid explosive detectors and 10 multi-functional electronic detection systems, aimed at improving field operations, emergency responses, and specialised training. The initiative reflects a strategic push to modernise state security infrastructure while ensuring timely utilisation of funds by March 2026.

The sanctioned amount includes Rs 4.54 crore for liquid explosive detectors (LEDs), each costing Rs 45.40 lakh, and Rs 5.35 crore for multi-functional electronic detection systems (MFEDS), priced at Rs 53.50 lakh per unit. The procurement will be managed by the Uttar Pradesh Police Security Headquarters following MSME guidelines and state procurement rules. Authorities have emphasised that all expenditure must strictly adhere to the sanctioned amounts.A senior officer at the Director General of Police (DGP) Headquarters noted that the new technology will significantly strengthen operational readiness. “These systems will enhance field capabilities, enabling rapid response during emergencies while also providing advanced training for specialised personnel,” the officer said. By keeping MFEDS units in reserve at the Security Headquarters, the force gains flexibility for both immediate deployment and instructional use.

Urban security analysts highlight that investing in advanced detection technology is essential not only for immediate threat response but also for long-term city resilience. “Upgrading bomb detection infrastructure strengthens public confidence and contributes to safer urban environments,” said an independent urban safety consultant. The initiative also aligns with wider goals of developing inclusive and sustainable urban spaces where citizens can move safely.Financial discipline is a key aspect of the scheme, with the government setting a hard deadline for fund utilisation by March 31, 2026. Such measures ensure accountability while supporting strategic upgrades across multiple districts, allowing the BDDS units to respond effectively to potential threats in rapidly expanding urban and peri-urban areas.Beyond direct security benefits, the initiative carries broader social and economic implications. Enhanced bomb detection capabilities reduce risks in public transport, crowded marketplaces, and civic events, supporting uninterrupted economic activity and fostering a sense of safety among residents. Officials believe that modern, technology-driven security infrastructure will set a benchmark for other states seeking to enhance emergency preparedness while maintaining transparency and fiscal responsibility.

As Indian cities continue to expand and face complex security challenges, investments in advanced detection systems demonstrate a proactive approach to urban safety. By integrating technology with strategic planning, Uttar Pradesh is positioning its cities to be safer, more resilient, and aligned with the broader vision of sustainable, inclusive urban development.
