Lucknow Advances Green Corridor Project with Phase 2 Launch

Lucknow’s ambitious 28km green corridor project has entered its crucial second phase, marking a significant milestone in urban infrastructure development aimed at improving mobility and reducing traffic congestion in the city. The project, spanning from IIM Road to Hardinge Bridge, has successfully operationalized a 6.8km four-lane road, with only a minor segment pending due to concurrent work by the Jal Kal department.

Phase 2 of the green corridor initiative focuses on expanding connectivity between the western and central parts of Lucknow, particularly targeting areas like Hazratganj, Kaiserbagh, Nishatganj, and Gomtinagar. This phase includes the construction of a 1.7km four-lane road designed to bypass the ASI-protected Residency area and converge near Mankameshwar temple. Additionally, plans are underway for a new concrete bridge over the Gomti River to facilitate smoother traffic flow along this route.

The extension of the green corridor is expected to benefit nearly one lakh residents by alleviating traffic bottlenecks on Mahatma Gandhi Marg and providing a faster commute from IIM to Daliganj, bypassing heavily congested zones such as Dubagga, Balaganj, Tehseenganj, and Hussainabad. With a comprehensive budget of Rs 7,500 crore allocated across four phases, Phase 1 of the project has already been completed, while Phase 2 is currently underway. Future phases will extend the corridor from Pipraghat to Shaheed Path in Phase 3, and further from Shaheed Path to Kisan Path in Phase 4, ultimately enhancing connectivity and supporting Lucknow’s urban expansion plans.

The green corridor project not only underscores Lucknow’s commitment to sustainable urban development but also promises enhanced economic prospects and quality of life for its residents. As infrastructure investments continue to shape the city’s landscape, stakeholders anticipate significant socio-economic benefits from improved transportation networks and reduced environmental impact.

“An allocation of Rs 200 crore has been made and the project team has set up makeshift offices, a soil testing lab, and a storage unit equipped with heavy machinery. Initial soil testing has been completed to ensure appropriate construction measures,” said the project director, Lucknow Development Authority, AK Senger.
