Kolkata Metro Enhances Ticketing Experience with New Hand Held Terminals

Kolkata Metro has taken a significant step forward in improving passenger convenience with the introduction of Hand Held Terminals. This innovative system allows commuters to purchase QR Code-based tickets without enduring long waits at booking counters, addressing a common frustration for daily travellers.

Kolkata Metro’s Hand Held Terminals offer a mobile ticketing solution placed in non-ticketing areas across key stations. Initially, 23 terminals will be trialled at stations such as Dakshineswar, Dumdum, and Howrah Maidan to ease congestion during peak hours. Metro staff will assist commuters in swiftly purchasing tickets with cash. These terminals can also verify QR Code-based tickets, improving operational efficiency. This initiative enhances accessibility and reduces wait times, alleviating the emotional toll of long queues and fostering a more comfortable commuting experience for passengers.

From a sustainability perspective, the introduction of Hand Held Terminals supports Kolkata Metro’s broader goals of promoting public transport usage. By simplifying the ticketing process, the metro aims to encourage more people to opt for eco-friendly travel options, thus reducing congestion and carbon emissions associated with private vehicle use. This aligns with global trends where urban transport systems are increasingly adopting technology to create more sustainable and efficient solutions. As Kolkata Metro continues to expand and modernise its services, initiatives like the Hand Held Terminals play a crucial role in shaping a sustainable and user-friendly transport network. The focus on passenger convenience not only enhances the overall travel experience but also positions the metro system as a preferred choice for environmentally conscious commuters.
