As the Onam festival approaches, Kochi Water Metro Limited (KWML) has announced a significant increase in services on the High Court-Fort Kochi route to accommodate the surge in passenger numbers. Beginning this Saturday, the frequency of boats on this popular route will be doubled, providing a service every 15 minutes instead of the current 25-minute interval. This operational change is designed to alleviate congestion and reduce waiting times at terminals, thereby improving the overall travel experience for passengers during the festive period.
The decision to enhance the frequency of services reflects KWML’s commitment to managing the increased demand during the Onam holidays effectively. By increasing the number of services to four per hour, KWML aims to streamline the flow of passengers and avoid the long queues that have been a concern in the past. This adjustment is anticipated to offer significant relief to commuters who rely on the Water Metro system for their daily travel.
In addition to the adjustments on the High Court-Fort Kochi route, the Kochi Metro has also taken proactive measures to address the festive rush. From Wednesday, the Metro has introduced eight additional services between Tripunithura and Aluva. These additional services will be in operation until Saturday, with the departure time for the last trains extended to 10:45 PM. This extension is part of a broader strategy to enhance service levels and accommodate the influx of passengers during the holiday season. Overall, these measures highlight the efforts of both KWML and Kochi Metro in adapting to the increased demand during the Onam festivities. By expanding service frequencies and extending operating hours, these transport authorities are ensuring that the city’s public transit infrastructure can handle the seasonal rush more efficiently.
