Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) has rolled out a new Metro Connect AC feeder bus service to improve connectivity within the city, linking High Court Water Metro Station with MG Road, Maharajas, and General Hospital. The service, which commenced on Wednesday, aims to facilitate seamless travel for daily commuters and tourists alike.
The new feeder buses will operate every 10 minutes from 7:45 AM to 8:00 PM, making travel more efficient for passengers moving between key metro stations. The route covers a distance of approximately five kilometres, and passengers can travel for a fare of Rs 20. The designated stops include High Court, MG Road, Maharajas Metro Stations, General Hospital, Boat Jetty, and Menaka. This initiative is part of Kochi Metro’s broader strategy to integrate different modes of public transport to enhance accessibility and ease traffic congestion in the city. Currently, nine feeder buses operate on other routes connecting vital hubs like Aluva-Cial, Kalamassery-Medical College, and Kalamassery-Infopark, among others.
The introduction of the Metro Connect bus service comes as a response to growing commuter demand for efficient local transport solutions. By extending the reach of Kochi Metro to areas not directly served by the rail network, KMRL aims to promote eco-friendly travel options while improving the overall commuter experience. In related developments, KMRL has lifted the speed restrictions on the train services between JLN Stadium and Kaloor stations after completing necessary track maintenance. The issue of wear and tear on the tracks was detected during routine inspections, prompting KMRL to undertake swift corrective actions. With maintenance work now complete, the trains are operating at full speed, contributing to a smoother and more efficient metro service.
The introduction of this new feeder bus service is expected to support the city’s goal of building a sustainable, interconnected transport system, providing residents and visitors with better access to the city’s major transit points. Moreover, KMRL’s efforts align with its broader vision of promoting zero-carbon, eco-friendly transportation options across Kochi, significantly reducing reliance on private vehicles and contributing to the city’s urban mobility objectives.
