Kochi Metro Rail Ltd (KMRL) is poised to convene a critical meeting to deliberate on the preliminary measures required for effective traffic management between Kakkanad and the city centre in anticipation of Phase II expansion of the Kochi Metro.
Initially slated as a stakeholders’ gathering to address concerns regarding alternative road development and traffic diversions, the meeting had to be postponed due to the recent parliamentary elections. Despite this delay, KMRL remains committed to proactively addressing the impending traffic challenges.
While a meeting was conducted two months ago to explore preparatory strategies, no definitive decisions were reached concerning alternative roadways or traffic diversion plans. However, KMRL officials, in collaboration with relevant authorities including the police, motor vehicle department, Thrikkakkara Municipal, and GCDA, conducted a comprehensive inspection of proposed alternate routes in early March. The forthcoming meeting aims to consolidate these efforts and present detailed reports to elected officials, fostering a collaborative approach towards devising effective traffic management solutions for the Kochi Metro’s Phase II expansion. As Kochi’s urban landscape continues to evolve, KMRL recognises the imperative of proactive planning to mitigate congestion and ensure seamless mobility for residents and commuters.
