Kochi Metro Expands E feeder Buses Linking Kalamassery To Infopark Phase 2

The city’s transition towards sustainable mobility gained momentum as Kochi Metro extended its electric feeder bus services to Infopark Phase 2, strengthening last-mile connectivity for one of Kerala’s largest IT hubs. The move not only enhances commuter convenience but also signals a push towards reducing carbon emissions in the city’s high-growth technology corridor.

According to officials, the expanded service now links Kalamassery metro station with Infopark Phase 2, ensuring better integration between metro rail operations and feeder transport. Multiple new services have been scheduled during peak hours, catering to the high footfall of professionals travelling to and from Infopark’s growing Phase 2 campus. The revised schedule also includes return services connecting Phase 2 with Infopark Phase 1, Kalamassery, and the Kakkanad Water Metro.

Kochi Metro’s decision reflects the growing demand for reliable, low-emission transport options in Kakkanad, where thousands of employees rely on daily travel to IT offices. With Infopark Phase 2 steadily expanding its workforce, mobility solutions have become critical to managing traffic congestion and reducing dependence on private vehicles. Experts note that introducing more e-feeder buses is in line with the city’s commitment to sustainable urban mobility and inclusive public transport.

The move also highlights how feeder systems can be a vital link in modern transport ecosystems. While the metro network provides high-capacity movement across the city, feeder buses extend the reach of that network into business hubs and residential neighbourhoods. Transport planners argue that e-feeder services not only make metro travel more viable but also accelerate the shift towards clean energy by replacing fossil-fuel-powered modes of last-mile connectivity.

For commuters, the benefits are immediate. Electric buses reduce travel time between metro stations and Infopark while cutting down pollution in densely populated corridors. A senior transport official explained that the expansion reflects feedback from passengers and businesses in the IT park, who have long called for stronger integration between the metro and feeder services. The timing of this expansion is significant. Kochi has been positioning itself as a model for smart, sustainable and gender-inclusive urban mobility in India. With the integration of electric buses into its feeder system, the city is aligning itself with broader climate goals while offering safer and more affordable transport for all sections of society.

Urban mobility analysts point out that such initiatives contribute directly to easing road congestion, improving air quality and supporting equitable access to employment hubs. If sustained and scaled up, the metro-feeder synergy could transform Kochi into a benchmark city for carbon-neutral transport in the region. For now, the extension of e-feeder services to Infopark Phase 2 is a welcome development for commuters, promising smoother, cleaner and more reliable journeys at a time when sustainable mobility is no longer a choice but a necessity.
