Kochi Metro is set to restore its malfunctioning timer boards by Thursday, following technical issues that affected their functionality. These timer boards, which display the expected arrival times of trains, are crucial for enhancing commuter convenience and are located at both the concourse and platform levels of the stations.
The boards at the concourse level, which were recently repaired, had previously displayed inaccurate times, leading to passenger frustration. The focus now shifts to rectifying the issues with the platform-level boards. Metro sources confirmed that testing of the system is underway to ensure accuracy and reliability once the boards are back in operation. In addition to repairing existing boards, there is also a demand for similar countdown displays to be installed at road-level entrances to keep pedestrians informed about train schedules. This move aims to improve overall commuter experience and streamline the flow of information.
The Aluva-Thripunithura metro corridor, spanning 27 kilometres, operates with varying train frequencies—every seven minutes during peak hours and every 8.5 minutes during off-peak times. The schedule includes a reduced frequency from 6 a.m. to 7 a.m., and after 9 p.m., reflecting lower ridership during these periods. Looking ahead, the upcoming Kakkanad extension, part of the Pink Line, promises improved design features. These enhancements are expected to allow commuters quicker access to platforms compared to the existing Blue Line stations, thereby further refining the metro service’s efficiency.
