KMDA has started reclaiming its plots, most of them in Kasba and Patuli off EM Bypass that had for long been encroached upon. Once the authorities demolish the illegal constructions on the plots and take back the parcels of land, they plan to auction them, aimed at fetching huge revenues for the state coffers.
KMDA pulled down unauthorised structures, one of them a three-storey building, on two plots close to the Gitanjali stadium in Kasba. Once the razing is finished, the land will be fenced off, and the authorities will auction them.
Prodded by the urban development department, a survey was carried out to identify vacant plots in the city and check their conditions. It was found that many KMDA plots had been encroached upon with illegal constructions. For example, unauthorised boundary walls or single-room structures had been built on many KMDA plots in Kasba and Patuli, which number over 180.
The plan was to fence off the plots still with KMDA and send notices to owners of allotted land, demanding to know why they had not started construction yet.
