Mumbai-based Kinet Railway Solutions has partnered with Tube Investments of India (TI India), a Murugappa Group company, to manufacture coach carbodies for the Vande Bharat Sleeper Train project.
This collaboration aligns with the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative, aiming to bolster domestic manufacturing and reduce reliance on imports. TI India brings its expertise in structural fabrication and precision steel forming to the project, contributing to the production of high-quality sleeper coaches designed for long-distance travel. The Vande Bharat Sleeper Trains are envisioned to offer enhanced comfort and efficiency, featuring advanced amenities such as automatic doors, cushioned berths, onboard Wi-Fi, and modern interiors. These trains are expected to operate at speeds up to 180 km/h, significantly reducing travel time across major routes.
The Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai has already completed the manufacturing of the first 16-car Vande Bharat Sleeper Train set, which has successfully undergone rigorous trials. Plans are underway to produce nine more such train sets by the end of this year, with full-scale production of 24-car configurations commencing in 2026-27. This expansion is poised to revolutionise overnight rail travel in India, offering passengers a seamless and luxurious experience. The partnership between Kinet Railway Solutions and TI India signifies a pivotal moment in India’s journey towards self-reliance in railway technology.
By leveraging domestic expertise and resources, the initiative not only enhances the country’s manufacturing capabilities but also contributes to sustainable and eco-friendly urban development.
