NTPC Renewable Energy Limited (NTPC REL), a subsidiary of India’s leading energy conglomerate, has announced a significant step forward in its renewable energy initiatives by inviting bids for the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) of a 245 MW solar photovoltaic (PV) project.
This project is part of the expansive Khavda Renewable Energy Park located in the Rann of Kutch, Gujarat. The Khavda Renewable Energy Park is poised to become one of the world’s largest hybrid renewable energy parks, integrating both solar and wind energy sources. This initiative aligns with India’s commitment to achieving a sustainable and low-carbon energy future. The scope of the EPC tender encompasses comprehensive responsibilities, including the design, engineering, manufacturing, supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of the solar PV project. Additionally, the successful bidder will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of the project for a specified period, ensuring its efficient performance and longevity.
Interested bidders are required to submit their proposals by June 26, 2025, with the bids being opened on the same day. The tender stipulates a bid security of ₹100 million and a bid document fee of ₹22,500. These requirements underscore the project’s scale and the importance of attracting qualified and capable contractors to execute this significant renewable energy endeavor. This 245 MW project is a component of a larger 795 MW solar capacity initiative at Khavda, which includes two additional projects of 275 MW each. The cumulative effort represents a substantial investment in renewable energy infrastructure, contributing to India’s goal of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030.
The Khavda Renewable Energy Park’s strategic location in the Rann of Kutch offers optimal solar irradiance and land availability, making it an ideal site for large-scale solar installations. The development of this park is expected to generate significant employment opportunities, stimulate local economies, and contribute to the region’s socio-economic development. NTPC REL’s initiative reflects a broader trend in India’s energy sector, where public sector undertakings are increasingly investing in renewable energy projects to diversify their energy portfolios and reduce carbon emissions. This move is in line with global efforts to combat climate change and transition towards cleaner energy sources.
As the bidding process unfolds, the focus will be on selecting a contractor with the technical expertise, financial capability, and commitment to quality and sustainability to deliver this landmark project. The successful execution of the 245 MW solar project at Khavda will mark a significant milestone in India’s renewable energy journey and set a precedent for future large-scale renewable energy projects in the country.
