Kerala’s ambitious six-lane highway project connecting Ernakulam to Kasaragod is progressing at an unprecedented pace, with completion slated for December 2025. Minister P.A. Mohammad Riyas announced that the 45-meter-wide National Highway 66 is a landmark infrastructure initiative designed to alleviate traffic woes across the state. The project includes crucial sections, such as the 37-kilometre stretch nearing 87% completion and expected to conclude by April 2025. Additionally, the Kanjippura-Moodal Bypass development will bring long-awaited relief to commuters. The coordinated efforts of the state government and the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) reflect a unified commitment to timely delivery.
Beyond connectivity, the highway is poised to transform Kerala’s urban landscape, particularly in traffic-heavy regions like Malappuram and Kozhikode. The state has already invested ₹5,600 crore for land acquisition, underlining the government’s commitment to modernising infrastructure. The Kozhikode stretch from Ramanattukara to Vengalam is on track for completion by next April, bringing efficiency and convenience to thousands of daily commuters. Regular reviews, led by the Chief Minister and supported by district collectors, ensure that challenges are swiftly addressed.
Sustainability has been a focal point of this project, with measures to mitigate environmental impact integrated into its design and construction. Widened roads and streamlined traffic will reduce vehicular emissions, contributing to Kerala’s environmental goals.
