Karnatakas Nagasamudram Upgrade Redirects Vande Bharat Routes

Major upgrades at Nagasamudram station in Karnataka have led to temporary rerouting of key Vande Bharat Express services from July 2 to 28, 2025, ensuring ongoing work on the loop line and overhead infrastructure continues uninterrupted. The loop line (Road‑3), under upgrade to mainline standards, will be closed during this period.

Consequently, the Kalaburagi–SMVT Bengaluru Vande Bharat (Train 22231), Kacheguda–Yesvantpur Vande Bharat (20703), and return Kalaburagi–SMVT Bengaluru service (22232) will detour via Anantapur, Dharmavaram, Sri Sathya Sai Prashanti Nilayam, Penukonda and Yelahanka, bypassing Nagasamudram. To mitigate impacts on commuters, the South Western Railway has extended temporary halts at Birur and Ramagiri for multiple express services—namely Yeshvantpur–Bikaner, Vishwamanava, and KSR Bengaluru–SSS Hubballi trains—effective from July 1 through December 31, 2025. These adjustments will remain in place on a trial basis.

Importantly, South Western Railway has assured that regular stops will continue as scheduled, maintaining service access for all stations on the affected lines. Alerts and revised timetables have been shared via official platforms and social media channels. The transformative upgrade of Nagasamudram reflects a wider strategic focus on rail infrastructure modernisation. The enhancement of loop lines to mainline capacity, along with the relocation of overhead equipment (OHE), is expected to boost handling efficiency, increase track usage flexibility, and facilitate faster, more reliable train movements once completed.

Passengers are advised to review the updated timetable and plan journeys in light of rerouted Vande Bharat services. Temporary stops at Birur and Ramagiri serve as interim connectivity nodes during the upgrade. Once reopening occurs post-July 28, Nagasamudram station will resume mainline operations, supporting greater throughput and signalling capability on the route. This short-term disruption marks a long-term gain as the station integrates into broader efforts to develop resilient, green, and accessible rail networks for Karnataka and its neighbouring regions.
