Karnataka to Form Expert Panel to Investigate COVID-19 Vaccine Side Effects
The Karnataka government has announced plans to set up an expert panel to investigate the potential side effects of the COVID-19 vaccine following increasing concerns raised by the public. This decision comes in response to reports of sudden deaths, including heart attacks and neurological issues, that have sparked a widespread discussion about the safety of the vaccine. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has instructed the state’s Chief Secretary Shalini Rajneesh to establish a committee consisting of scientists and medical professionals to study these reports in detail and recommend any necessary preventive measures.
The move comes after a senior journalist highlighted the alarming rise in deaths among young individuals, many of whom allegedly died due to heart attacks, cardiac arrests, or even blood clots. In an email addressed to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, the journalist expressed concern over these incidents, noting that they had not only devastated families but also caused significant financial hardship for the affected households. The journalist also pointed out that there were troubling reports of children, as young as 10 to 12 years old, suffering from heart attacks. In response, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has directed the formation of a dedicated expert panel to conduct an authenticated and comprehensive study on the side effects of the COVID-19 vaccine. Dr. H Ravikumar, medical advisor to the Chief Minister, explained that while there have been sporadic reports of vaccine side effects, the government aims to obtain an official study report to address these concerns and determine if any preventive measures need to be implemented.
“The government is very much concerned about the issue. There are reports suggesting even children are suffering from heart attacks. This issue is of great importance to us, and we need an authenticated report from experts,” Dr. Ravikumar stated. The panel will be tasked with thoroughly examining these reports and determining whether there is a direct link between the vaccine and the adverse health effects being observed. The Karnataka government’s move follows similar steps taken by the central government. The Indian government has already commissioned a study to examine the potential side effects of the vaccine and has been responding to complaints filed by the public in court. In addition to local concerns, several vaccine manufacturers have admitted to the occurrence of side effects, such as Thrombosis with Thrombocytopenia Syndrome (TTS), which causes blood clots and low platelet counts in some recipients.
