Karnataka Launches Circular Economy Cluster

Karnataka’s made an announcement regarding the establishment of a circular
economy cluster in the state and extended an invitation to Fraunhofer, a German
research society renowned for operating 76 institutes dedicated to various fields
of applied science, to participate in this initiative.

The state government has commitment to the circular economy and its efforts to
devise strategies that encourage businesses to adopt circular production models.
The circular economy has been integrated into key state policies, including the
startup policy, urban solid waste management policy of 2020, Karnataka
registered vehicle scrapping policy of 2022, and the e-waste management rule
of 2022.

The state extended an invitation to Germany to be a part of the Centre of
Excellence and collaborate on this ambitious project, given Germany’s
reputation for pioneering best practices in this field. They are planning to set up
what might be India’s first circular economy lab.

The establishment of a circular economy cluster in Karnataka, along with
international collaborations, underscores the state’s commitment to sustainable
and responsible resource management.
