Kalyani Nagar’s Battle Against Noise Pollution Analysing Resident Appeal and Political Response

Kalyani Nagar, Pune, faces an unprecedented challenge as residents unite under the banner of Team Swachh Kalyani Nagar (TSKN) to combat the burgeoning issue of noise pollution. Convening on May 6, 2024, residents engaged in a strategic discourse with Dr Shashi Tharoor, former Central Minister of the Government of India, to address this pressing concern.

TSKN, a vigilant coalition dedicated to upholding cleanliness, hygiene, and safety within the locality, expressed profound distress over the escalating levels of noise pollution emanating from various sources. These encompass the cacophony of music from nearby establishments, incessant construction activities, and the perennial traffic congestion plaguing the area due to inadequate crowd management protocols. Such cumulative disturbances have significantly encroached upon the peace and well-being of residents, particularly during nocturnal hours and weekends.

Citing adverse health ramifications, TSKN members recounted instances of senior citizens grappling with palpitations and migraines, while children find it arduous to concentrate on academic pursuits amidst constant disruptions. Consequently, the once serene ambiance of Kalyani Nagar has been overshadowed by stress and anxiety, necessitating urgent intervention.
