Kalladka Flyover Set to Open on June 2

The Kalladka flyover on National Highway 75 (NH-75) is set to open on June 2, marking a significant milestone in the ongoing road expansion project aimed at improving connectivity between Bengaluru and Mangaluru.

This 2.1 km flyover is part of a larger initiative to widen NH-75, enhancing travel efficiency and safety for commuters. Situated in Kalladka, a key junction on NH-75, the new flyover is expected to alleviate traffic congestion that has plagued this stretch for years. The project is crucial for facilitating smoother transit between Bengaluru and Mangaluru, two major cities in Karnataka. With the opening of the flyover, vehicles will bypass the congested town area, reducing travel time and improving overall traffic flow. The early onset of monsoon rains had exacerbated travel difficulties on NH-75, particularly due to ongoing construction activities. To mitigate these issues, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has fast-tracked the completion of critical infrastructure. In addition to the Kalladka flyover, two-lane underpasses at Mani and Uppinangady are also scheduled to open, providing alternative routes and easing traffic bottlenecks.

A persistent problem on NH-75 has been waterlogging, especially near Thumbe and B.C. Road, which has caused significant inconvenience to commuters. In response, the NHAI has implemented a pipe culvert system to improve drainage and prevent flooding during heavy rains. This development is expected to enhance road safety and comfort for travelers. As of now, approximately 95% of the work from Addahole to Periyashanthi has been completed, with the remaining 5% pending due to an elephant underpass issue awaiting court approval. Between Periyashanthi and B.C. Road, about 86% of the work is finished, with full completion expected by June. The overall project, which began in 2017, has faced delays but is now nearing its final stages. The Kalladka flyover, constructed with over 70 support pillars, is a critical component of this infrastructure upgrade.

The opening of the Kalladka flyover on June 2 is a welcome development for travelers on NH-75, promising reduced travel times and improved safety. While challenges such as waterlogging and construction delays have posed difficulties, the proactive measures taken by the NHAI indicate a commitment to enhancing the quality of road infrastructure. As the project nears completion, it is anticipated that the full benefits of the expanded highway will be realized, contributing to better connectivity and economic growth in the region.
